Ingredients
✓ 12 lasagna noodles
✓ 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
✓ 4 cups tomato sauce or marinara sauce
✓ 2 cups ricotta cheese
✓ 1 egg
✓ 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
✓ 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
✓ 2 cloves fresh garlic, finely chopped
✓ 1 medium onion, finely chopped
✓ 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (basil, oregano, thyme blend)
✓ 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
✓ Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
✓ Add finely chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes).
✓ Add 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage; cook until fully browned (about 7-8 minutes), breaking up any clumps with a wooden spoon.
✓ Stir in 2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning and cook for another minute.
✓ In a large bowl, mix 2 cups ricotta cheese with 1 egg until well combined.
✓ Gradually stir in 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese to create a smooth mixture.
✓ Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil; add lasagna noodles, cooking according to package instructions (about 7-8 minutes).
✓ Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Drain the noodles and place them between sheets of parchment paper or on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.
✓ Spread about 1 cup tomato sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
✓ Add a layer of cooked lasagna noodles (about 3-4) over the sauce, breaking them slightly with your fingers if needed to fit.
✓ Spoon half of the meat sauce over the noodles and spread evenly.
✓ Spread about half of the ricotta mixture on top of the meat sauce.
✓ Sprinkle a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese (about 1 cup).
✓ Repeat this process with another layer of noodles, remaining sauces, and cheeses.
✓ Cover the final layer with noodles and pour any leftover sauce over them.
✓ Top with the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese.
✓ Bake in preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
✓ Remove from oven and let sit for at least 10 minutes before slicing to allow it to set up slightly.
Notes
Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before assembling to ensure proper mixing and even cooking. Make sure each layer of sauce, cheese, and meat is spread evenly for an aesthetically pleasing result.
