Description

Bobotie is a traditional South African dish that combines minced meat with a unique blend of spices and a creamy egg topping, creating a flavorful and comforting casserole.


Ingredients

  • 500g minced meat
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 slice of bread, soaked in milk
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Bay leaves


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large pan, sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
  3. Add the minced meat and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the curry powder, sugar, and vinegar, and cook for a few more minutes.
  5. Squeeze the milk from the bread and add the bread to the meat mixture, mixing well.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and smooth the top.
  8. Beat the eggs and pour over the meat mixture.
  9. Place bay leaves on top and bake for 30-40 minutes until the egg topping is set and golden.
