Description

Peking Duck is a famous Chinese dish known for its crispy skin and tender meat, often served with pancakes and hoisin sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole duck (about 5-6 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 12-16 Chinese pancakes
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 bunch of scallions, sliced
  • 1 cucumber, julienned

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Clean the duck and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, mix honey, soy sauce, Chinese five-spice powder, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
  4. Brush the mixture all over the duck, ensuring even coverage.
  5. Place the duck on a rack in a roasting pan and roast for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  6. Let the duck rest for 10 minutes before carving.
  7. Serve the duck with Chinese pancakes, hoisin sauce, sliced scallions, and julienned cucumber.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, air-dry the duck in the refrigerator overnight before cooking.
  • Adjust the seasoning to taste, especially the five-spice powder.
