Description
A detailed guide to mastering the art of making delicate French macarons, which are worth the effort for their delightful taste and texture.
Ingredients
- 100g almond flour
- 100g powdered sugar
- 75g egg whites (about 2 large eggs), room temperature
- 50g granulated sugar
- Food coloring (optional)
- Filling of choice (e.g., buttercream, ganache, or jam)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Sift the almond flour and powdered sugar together into a bowl to remove any lumps.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks, then gradually add the granulated sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg whites in three additions, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
- If using, add food coloring and gently mix until evenly distributed.
- Transfer the batter to a piping bag fitted with a round tip and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Tap the baking sheet on the counter to release any air bubbles and let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30-60 minutes until a skin forms on the surface.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the macarons have risen and developed their characteristic ‘feet’.
- Allow the macarons to cool completely on the baking sheet before removing them.
- Pair the shells with similar-sized ones and fill with your choice of filling.
Notes
- Ensure all equipment is clean and dry to prevent any oil or moisture from affecting the meringue.
- Macarons can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
