Description

Ambuyat is a traditional Bruneian dish made from the starchy interior of the sago palm, often enjoyed with a variety of flavorful dipping sauces.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sago starch
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Assorted dipping sauces (e.g., spicy sambal, sour lime sauce)


Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Gradually add the sago starch to the boiling water, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  3. Continue stirring until the mixture becomes thick and translucent.
  4. Season with salt to taste.
  5. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  6. Serve the ambuyat with a selection of dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Ambuyat is traditionally eaten using a bamboo fork called ‘chandas’.
  • The consistency should be sticky and glue-like.
